Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum

Located next to the Space Needle, the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition is a marvelous addition to Seattle's artistic and cultural offerings. Intended as a community gathering space, it's been a favorite attraction since it opened in 2012. The amazing glass sculptures of Washington artist Dale Chihuly are the highlight, but be sure to take a walk in the gardens and admire the flora there – enhanced as it is by the artist's work. Enjoy a meal of Northwestern cuisine at the museum's restaurant, Collections Cafe, whose decor is inspired by Chihuly's Lake Union Boathouse.

FAQs

  • Who is Chihuly?

Dale Chihuly is a glass artist and Tacoma, Washington, native. He first came across the use of glass in art while studying interior design at University of Washington. He furthered his studies at the University of Wisconsin and Rhode Island School of Design. While in Venice on a Fulbright Fellowship, he deepened his understanding of the craft of glass blowing. His installations have been showcased all over the world, including the Paris Louvre.
  • What can I expect to see in the Exhibition?

The Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition Hall includes 8 galleries and the Glasshouse. The Glasshouse is the centerpiece of the facility, and reflects Chihuly's appreciation for conservatories. It's a 4,500-square-foot clear glass structure - steel supports the glass - housing Chihuly's colorful sculptures. The galleries also highlight other media that influence his work, including paintings, drawings and textiles.
